Overview
\nTab Pagination<\/h2><\/span>
<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The pagination tab includes information about the HTML rel=”next” and rel=”prev” link elements discovered in a scan, which are used to indicate the relationship between component URLs in a paginated series.<\/p>\n

While Google announced on March 21, 2019 that it has not been using rel=”next” and rel=”prev” in indexing for a long time, other Search Engines such as Bing (which also powers Yahoo), still use it as a hint for discovery and understanding website architecture.<\/p>\n

Pagination attributes should be put in the head of the document and look like this in HTML:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

  • Address<\/strong>: the scanned URL.<\/li>\n
  • Occurences<\/strong>: The absolute number of canonicals found in a Url (either via link element or HTTP).<\/li>\n
  • Indexability<\/strong>: shows whether the URL is indexable or non-indexable.<\/li>\n
  • Indexability Status<\/strong>: the reason why a URL is not indexable.<\/li>\n
  • rel=”next”:<\/strong> the Seo Spider collects these HTML link elements designed to indicate the relationship between URLs in a paginated series. The link refers to the URL of the next page.<\/li>\n
  • rel=”prev”:<\/strong> the Spider collects these HTML link elements designed to indicate the relationship between URLs in a paginated series. The link refers to the URL of the previous page.<\/li>\n
  • Canonical Link Element 1\/2 etc<\/strong>: indication of the canonical URL.<\/li>\n
  • HTTP Canonical 1\/2 etc<\/strong>: directions on canonical issued via HTTP.<\/li>\n
  • Meta Robots 1\/2 etc<\/strong>: Meta robots found on the URL.<\/li>\n
  • X-Robots-Tag 1\/2 etc – X-Robots-tag data<\/strong>: the Seo Spider finds all instances if there are more than one.<\/li>\n
  • The available filters are:<\/li>\n
  • Contains<\/strong> Pagination: the scanned URL has a rel=”next” and\/or rel=”prev” attribute in the html code, indicating that it is part of a paginated series.<\/li>\n
  • First Page<\/strong>: the URL has only a rel=”next” attribute, indicating that it is the first page of a paginated series. It is easy and useful to scroll through these URLs and make sure they are accurately implemented on the series parent page.<\/li>\n
  • Paginated 2+ Pages:<\/strong> the URL has a rel=”prev” on it, indicating that it is not the first page, but a paginated page in a series.<\/li>\n
  • Pagination URL Not In Anchor Tag<\/strong>: a URL contained in one or both of the rel=”next” and rel=”prev” attributes of the page, is not found as a hyperlink in an html anchor text and does not allow the surfer to click, preventing navigation of the series.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Non-200 Pagination URL<\/strong>: URLs contained in rel=”next” and rel=”prev” attributes do not respond with a 200 ‘OK’ status code. This can include URLs blocked by robots.txt, no response, 3XX (redirects), 4XX (client errors) or 5XX (server errors). Paging URLs must be scannable and indexable, so non-200 URLs are treated as errors and ignored by Search Engines. Non-200 pagination URLs can be exported in bulk by exporting the Non-200 Pagination URLs report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

      Unlinked Pagination URL<\/strong>: the URL contained in the rel=”next” and rel=”prev” attributes does not have any additional links to the attribute (no links from other resources on the website). Pagination attributes cannot pass PageRank like a traditional anchor element, so this could be a sign of a problem with “Internal Linking,” or the URLs contained in the pagination attribute. These critical Urls can be exported in bulk via the “Unlinked Pagination URLs” report export.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

      Report > Pagination > Non-200 Pagination URLs<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

      • Not index<\/strong>able: the paging URL is not indexable. At the Seo level, the urls used in pagination should all be indexable unless you have provided a “View All” service page or if there are extra parameters on the pagination URLs that require canonicalization. A very common mistake is the use of canonicalization of pages paged 2+ on the first page of a series. Another common mistake is the use of “noindex” on pageviews, which inhibits Google from indexing pages and following outlinks.<\/li>\n
      • Multiple Pagination URLs<\/strong>: there are multiple rel=”next” and rel=”prev” attributes on the page that could confuse the Search Engine spider.<\/li>\n
      • Pagination Loop<\/strong>: This filter shows URLs that have rel=”next” and rel=”prev” attributes that create loops by not allowing navigation to continue in the series.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

        Page 1: domain.com\/page\/1 \u2192 presents the “rel=next” to itself<\/p>\n

        Page 2 domain.com\/page\/2 has the “rel=next” \u2192 domain.com\/page\/3 and the rel=prev \u2192 domain.com\/page\/2<\/p>\n

        Page 3 domain.com\/page\/3 has the “rel=next” \u2192 domain.com\/page\/2<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

        • Sequence Error:<\/strong> the filter displays URLs that have an error in the sequence of HTML rel=”next” and rel=”prev” link elements. This check ensures that the URLs contained within the HTML rel=”next” and rel=”prev” link elements are reciprocal and confirm their relationship in the
