CDNs are an excellent solution to distribute multimedia content through the use of different servers and optimize the performance of websites or e-commerce and improve UX through content caching.<\/p>\n

With the Content Delivery Network<\/strong>, the distances between the server and the end user are reduced, making it ideal for both static content and dynamic content delivery.<\/p>\n

Many e-commerce or large websites such as Amazon, Netflix or Meta itself use a CDN to make the experience on the pages smoother.<\/p>\n

Since Google is very sensitive to user experience, CDNs may be the right solution to achieve this goal.<\/p>\n

At the SEO level, the use of CDNs for images is very important to improve performance in Core Web Vitals<\/a>, particularly for the LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) metric.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The architecture of a Content Delivery Network (CDN) is quite complex but generally consists of several key elements that work together to deliver content to clients efficiently and reliably. Here is an overview of the main components of a CDN architecture:<\/p>\n

  • Points of Presence (PoPs)<\/b>: PoPs are servers geographically distributed in different strategic locations around the world. Each PoP contains a cache of the most popular content and serves as a local delivery point for users nearby. The greater the number of PoPs, the better the geographic coverage and the closer the content is to the end users.<\/li>\n
  • Source Servers<\/b>: These are the original servers that host the web content. The CDN retrieves content from the source servers and distributes it to PoPs for caching.<\/li>\n
  • Routing and Load<\/b> Balancing: The CDN uses routing and load balancing algorithms to direct user requests to the most appropriate PoPs and to distribute load evenly among PoPs.<\/li>\n
  • Cache Software<\/b>: Each PoP is equipped with cache software that temporarily stores the most requested content. This reduces latency times and improves the overall performance of content distribution.<\/li>\n
  • Global Transport<\/b> Networks: CDNs often use high-performance transport networks to ensure a fast and reliable connection between origin servers, PoPs, and end users.<\/li>\n
  • Monitoring<\/b> and Analysis: Monitoring and analysis tools are used to monitor CDN performance, collect data on traffic patterns, and identify any performance or security issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Overall, the architecture of a CDN is designed to improve the performance, reliability and security of content distribution over the Internet, delivering content to customers quickly and efficiently, wherever in the world they are.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    CDN: the advantages<\/h3><\/span>

    As you may have guessed, if your business caters to visitors scattered around the world, CDN is a highly recommended solution. Let us see together in detail the benefits that can be obtained.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Reduced loading time<\/strong>: the main benefit is the reduction in the time it takes to load-balance the website; this scenario potentially results in a drastic reduction in bounce rate due to the improved perception of the user browsing your website.<\/li>\n
    2. Less Downtime<\/strong>: through CDN the website increases stability by not depending entirely on the web host, so that if it were compromised it could lean on the Content Delivery Network servers and ensure continuity of service to the visitor.<\/li>\n
    3. Security against DDoS attacks<\/strong>: due to the presence of different servers the different nodes of the CDN mitigate the fraudulent attack by decreasing the chances of the site going down.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>

      CDN: SEO disadvantages<\/h3><\/span>

      However, CDN can also hide SEO pitfalls, and some industry experts question its use because it could negatively affect the ranking of media content.<\/p>\n

      The main disadvantages essentially include two scenarios:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. CDN domain<\/strong>: content responds with paths other than the website hostname and may be a poor signal in indexing the content. The same condition would also arise in a less impactful way if the CDN were hosted on a subdomain of the website (in this case, however, it will be possible to work by creating a custom subdomain).<\/li>\n
      2. Duplicate content<\/strong>: images may be considered duplicate. For this problem it will be sufficient to set up a Canonical Header<\/em> identifying for the crawler that the CDN content is a copy of the original.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>

        CDN and Screaming Frog<\/h3><\/span>

        In addition to its configuration, CDNs must still be controlled in performance to ensure the benefits we have listed above. This is where Seo Spider comes to your aid with the dedicated feature you can find from the “Config. > CDN.”<\/p>\n

        Screaming Frog allows you to enter a list of CDNs that will be treated as internal resources (URLs) during the analysis.<\/p>\n

        The Seo Spider also allows you to provide a subfolder with the domain so that the subfolder (and the content within it) is treated as internal.<\/p>\n

        CDN links you can then monitor in the “Internal” tab, and you can handle a greater amount of detail than using them as if they were external links.<\/p>\n
